We asked the question to one of the world's leading bridle manufacturers, “How do I take care of my leather in the best way?
This is what Tomas Schumacher says:
Take care of your leather so that it stays beautiful for a long time.
Daily after use, wipe away all dirt and sweat with a damp cloth. Make sure all nooks, crannies and seams are kept properly clean. If the leather is really dirty, a mild leather soap can be used.
You don't need to use a lot of water, but if you do, dry the leather thoroughly afterwards.
Absolutely do not use saddle soap on the headband if it has rhinestones, clinker or pearls, these are often glued and the saddle soap dissolves the glue.
Swarovski stones and pearls also lose their luster if you have ordinary detegent on them.
About once a week or if you notice that the leather is starting to look a little dry, apply leather grease after cleaning. It's good for the leather to use a leather grease with avocado oil in it.
If the leather loses color, it is fine to fill in with shoe polish of the same color. Work the shoe polish in properly and you will get both color and shine, and the color will stick better.
